COTTON
WOOL
Fabric stores are full of luscious batik and hand dyed fabrics, so why would you dye your own???
Because it is fun and because you can create your own colors, colors that may not be the “fashionable” or popular ones, colors that will make your projects sing!
I teach a series of cotton hand dyeing courses through Quilter’s Heaven. I also offer Dye Studios ,where students can work on their own projects in my dye studio (also known as the kitchen!).
Presently, I dye wool fabric for my own projects and rug hooking classes. If you’d like to learn how to dye wool, we can set up a private lesson.
SHIBORI
Shibori is a Japanese word that is generally used to mean any fabric that is manipulated in some way and then dyed, and runs the gamut from Grateful Dead t-shirts to incredibly beautiful silk sculptures! I am presently teaching two classes and our work will fall somewhere in the middle. We will sew, clamp, twist and fold cotton fabrics and you will go home with lots of beautiful pieces to use in your next creation. We’ll touch on how to dye cotton, and then we’ll mix lots of colors for you to choose from. In Shibori 1, we will clamp, twist, tie and fold. Shibori 2 will be primarily sewn resist patterns.Take one or both classes and learn a really fun way to create your own fabrics. This is also offered through Quilter’s Heaven.
